Those Who Bring The Torture – ‘Necromancer’
Taken from a review on Metal Viewer and translated from the original German:
“Today we let it go a bit quieter and above all very slowly, because Suffer Yourself are on the program and with them Funeral Doom. Founded in Poland in 2011, the one-man project first moved to Ukraine and later to Sweden and gradually became a full-fledged band. The first demo recorded in the first recording was followed by 2 albums recorded as a band, of which the ” Ectoplasm ” is the younger one and has been singled out by the Swedish cast.
” Ectoplasm ” is filled with just 5 songs, but Doom Metal fans can not be lazy, because the album manages to over 60 minutes of playing time and fills it full. No fillers, no prisoners. Instead, the foursome fires slowly from the box-pressing Funeral Doom Metal, which increases by a high dose Death Metal neat in density, hardness and gloom. Heavy riffs roll over the listener accompanied by no less pressing bass lines and supported by slow powerful drums. So the heavy chunk crushes everything in its way, but also briefly briefly inside, stops and then bounces again. The whole thing is supported here and there by keyboards and samplers, But the two worlds are strictly separated and the Sampler and the Dark Ambient provide for a short breather and intensify the already cuttings with the knife and lead from one song to the next. As if that were not brilliant enough, the vocals always put new highlights. The main focus is on ultra-deep growls, who argue with the guitars around who is now deeper and more powerful (with clear victory for the vocals). Again and again, however, this scheme breaks out and the growls become harsh to harsh pig squeels or gain in height and then come as screaming screams screaming their misery into the world. Here and there some ritual, spiritual, or gloomy clarinet and spoken words, Also with some Hall and you have covered pretty much everything Doom and Extreme Metal. In doing so, the band succeeds in incorporating the styles into their sound and making this an absolutely round thing. Both musically and vocally!
” Ectoplasm ” is rightly considered the DER Extreme Doom Metal album of the year, because the band does pretty much everything you can do right. Powerful songs, gloomy, oppressive and intense like a really good horror film and varied, especially with regard to the vocals, but also musically there is a lot of what keeps the album exciting. I’m really not a big doom and not a big Death Metal fan, but Suffer Yourself is even great. ” Ectoplasm ” should be any fan of death steel in slow motion on his shelf.”
