“Hailing from the Ukraine, Suffer Yourself will release their new album Inner Sanctum on March 19th. This self proclaimed ‘funeral doom’ metal band have compiled some of the darkest tunes I’ve heard in a long time! And what better time to review a doom metal album than Valentines Day. Yes, you are welcome!
Each of the five songs within the Inner Sanctum are layered with the darkest tones setting an atmosphere that sends chills on the back of your neck giving you the feeling like something bad is about to happen yet teasingly messing with your mind.
The title track “Inner Sanctum” sets the mood for the album and sets up your mind for the psychological onslaught that is about to happen. “Darkness pt.1” gets even heavier as it chops into the brain piece by piece while taking you into a journey that will surely lead you straight to the pits of hell.
The guitars are masterfully layered throughout the song giving the perfect amount of doom. The third track, “Darkness pt.2” starts off with a wicked, mutli-instrument intro that will confuse you right before it tears you a new one waking you up long enough to rip you apart with it’s thunderous rhythms.
“Winter Evening (Soir d’hiver)” is not only shows the diversity and musicianship this band is capable of, but it will also send you down a chilly journey to an unknown destination. I’m really digging the tones of not only the bass and guitars but the vocals are equally impressive throughout the album.
The album wraps up with the terrifying “Eternity (L’Eternite)”. Over all this is exactly what it claims to be. Funeral doom is the best way to describe the dark Inner Sanctum. I highly recommend this to all lovers of the doom metal. This album will remain high on my list of best doom albums of the year. It’s not everyones cup of tea, but it is mine. So go check them out and show them some support!” Chris Axe (Axes Leftovers)
