Review on Italia Di Metallo:
Gentlemen, here we are dealing with a debut with a bang. I started listening to the ep ‘ Wasted Time and Broken Bones’ of the Atacama Death Experience , knowing only that it is a group sludge and nothing more, information that I had already whipped up being a lot of great inspiration, though not expert levels encyclopedia of the genre in question. In fact there is more to say and to specify: first, it is not a group in the literal sense of the term, but a duo bass / vocals and drums, formed in Rovereto in July 2013, and secondly, the ADE like define their music “nihilistic blues from the middle of nowhere” (I quoted well as Eyehategod and for this you have earned more points esteem, let this be known). Romano “Malaciort” Monero and Antonio Iodice pull out in two, often a sound and impressive absolutely worthy of any band consisting of four or more members, I thought that sound so pissed off and eighteen came from a guitar and I swear that if I had not read in the biography that is a low probably not even have believed it.
Given the genre, it is not strange that all of the songs exceed five minutes in length. It begins with ‘ Fleece of Time ‘ : dark, gloomy, one would expect a tone of voice just a little ‘dirty and scratched, instead Romano launches on obscure sounds typical of the crust. It continues with ‘ Useless Blues’ , which I appreciate especially the intro and the main riff which flows into the sound stoner / blues that I like abbestia. Overall, the piece brings to mind the Bongzilla or, why not, something of Kyuss or the first Sabbath. ‘ Rotten Clouds’ , the third track, is my favorite ep, especially because of the loose and frequent changes of the groove. I’ll be biased, but let me hear songs like that more or less equals to invite me to the wedding. Around minute 3:10, then we have a short variation: a bass “classic” that gradually goes to superimpose a sound more distorted and full, closely followed by the battery, remained silent for a few seconds. I find that, among the four, this is the piece that is developed more fully.
We got to the title track ‘ Wasted Time and Broken Bones’ , the final song of the ep. Surprise: we meet the clean side of the voice of the Roman Empire , even if only for a moment. Great beautiful chorus, perfectly in tune with the instrumental part. The battery is, again, a great job, at times it reminded me Down by Phil Anselmo .
I’ll be repetitive, but here we are facing a slap ep. Speaking of sludge is an understatement, as “Wasted Time and Broken Bones” cleverly mixes influences and sounds of various kinds, ranging from the crust to the stoner, blues, going in some places up to the sounds typical of the drone (even if they showed the same slowness). I also really like the artwork on the cover, even though the logo may be misleading since much black metal style. In any case, my job is simply to review the music of the ADE and the covers of their records, which is why I say with absolute certainty and conviction, he did not put a higher rating because I need to listen to more tracks: are anxiously awaiting a full-length.
